The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Your Freshers Week

It’s finally here, freshers week has arrived! Although it may seem overwhelming at first, it’s an exciting time of new beginnings and making lifelong friends. The week will be packed with events, activities, and opportunities to get involved with on campus and beyond. Here, we’re going to guide you through everything you need to know to survive your Freshers Week.

Before Freshers Week starts, it’s important to plan out your schedule and prioritise events that you want to attend. You will be bombarded with invitations and information in the first few days, so it’s crucial to get organised. This way, you won’t miss out on any events you really want to attend and can avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Meet new people

Freshers Week is the perfect opportunity to meet new people and make lasting connections. Be open to meeting new people and don’t be afraid to start conversations. You can always bond over the shared experience of starting university. Join a society or club that interests you, attend social events, or even just hang out in your student accommodation’s common room. You’ll soon find yourself surrounded by like-minded individuals.

Stay safe

Although Freshers Week is all about having fun, it’s important to stay safe. Drink responsibly and know your limits – the last thing you want is to spend the whole week nursing a hangover! Stick with a group of friends when going out, and make sure someone always knows your whereabouts. Carry a charged phone with you, and if possible, take advantage of student safety services provided by your university or student union.

During Freshers Week, it’s easy to get caught up in social events and forget about your academic responsibilities. However, it’s important to remember that university is, first and foremost, about your studies. Make sure to attend your lectures, familiarise yourself with your course materials, and plan out your study schedule for the semester. That being said, don’t stress too much about coursework and exams during your first week – there will be plenty of time for that later!

Make the most of your university’s resources

Freshers Week is a great time to learn about everything your university has to offer. Attend orientation sessions, visit the library, and explore your campus. Learn about academic resources like tutoring and study groups, as well as support services like mental health counselling and career advisors. These resources will play an important role in making your university experience a success.
