Your Guide to Clearing
There’s a common misconception that if you don’t get the required grades for your university place or perhaps you’ve missed the deadline, it’s the end of the road. This couldn’t be any further from the truth – let us introduce clearing.
Last year, UCAS reported that 67,990 students found a place at university using clearing. Here’s how you can join them.
What is Clearing?
Clearing allows you to apply for university places which haven’t yet been filled, outside of the application window.
It’s available to anyone who has made a UCAS undergraduate if you’re not already holding an offer from another university, and the course still has places.
Clearing is open from the 5th of July to the 18th of October 2024.
You can use clearing if:
- you’re applying after the 30th of June
- you didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept)
- you didn’t meet the conditions of your offers
- you’ve paid the multiple choice application fee of £27.50
- you’ve declined your firm place using the ‘decline my place’ button in your application
How does it work?
If your exam results don’t meet the requirements of a conditional offer you’ve accepted and the university decides to not confirm your place, you’ll automatically be entered into clearing on results day.
Clearing can be done via UCAS, simply log in or register to access the listings of available courses. Almost every university offers courses through clearing so there should be a large selection to choose from.
You should contact the university directly to see if they will accept you for the course you’re interested in before progressing any further.
Once you’ve received confirmation from the university, you need to add your clearing choice to your UCAS application so that they can officially accept you.
You can learn more as well as access valuable resources and guides by visiting the UCAS website.
